MMSSOFT029: Business Writing and Email Etiquette

Overview:

Build the awareness and skills students need to confidently communicate to various audiences in an effective manner. Course shall focus on an audience that is proficient in the basics of writing.

Course will contain cooperative “hands on” exercises and discussions that include different scenarios, educating the audience on how to build customized writing techniques for various types of business correspondence. Students will run-through these writing techniques and apply them to writing emails.

Participants will also learn best practices in self-editing their work.

Outline:

  • Recognize what constitutes as good writing practices.
  • Plan documents by identifying their purpose, audience, thesis, and scope.
  • Use outlining tools to identify key topics and subtopics.
  • Create proper sentences that provide pertinent information to your readers.
  • Form paragraphs that include topic sentences, supporting details, and transition phrases.
  • Make correct word choices and use the voice and phrasing appropriate for your document
  • Examine and use guidelines for writing effective business correspondence.
  • Conduct self-edits.
