Titan Rain is a suspected group estimated by some as being comprised of approximately twenty hackers based presumably in Guangdong, southern China. They have reportedly been systematically targeting U.S. military and government networks since 2004.

Labeled as highly skilled and relentless, Titan Rain sweeps sensitive networks looking for poorly secured computers that can be used as launching pads for attacks further into the targeted network. Their goal is to identify and steal classi-
fied military information, trade secrets, and intellectual property.

Because Titan Rain appears to be so well organized, it is believed to be either a Chinese military operation, or a military-sponsored and supported group. Groups similar to Titan Rain have been in operation for decades.
